WhirlyGlobe-Maply: Globe and map SDK for iOS and Android

Based on OpenGL ES and focused on mobile first, WhirlyGlobe-Maply is used in a wide variety of altas, weather, visualization, and map apps. The SDK is both a 3D interactive globe for iOS and a 2D flat (or slippy) map for iOS and Android. It’s all open source. The feature list is pretty long, but here are a few things you can display with the toolkit.

Tiled Images
Animated images
Labels (2D)
Markers (2D)
Vector Maps
Lofted Polys
Labels (3D)
Markers (3D)
Vector Tiles
Extruded shapes

It’s big, but it’s also friendly. You develop with the native tools on each platform and we’ve got some nice tutorials. Developers of all skill levels have made WhirlyGlobe-Maply apps. You can too!

The iOS version, for iPhone and Android is the most mature. Android is coming along nicely with the 2D map (Maply) ported first.

Check out what the SDK can do. Here are a couple of short videos showing off the globe and the map, respectively.

WhirlyGlobe 2.2

WhirlyGlobe refers to the 3D interactive globe part of the toolkit. It shares most of its code with the Maply part.

Maply 2.2

The Maply part of the toolkit refers to the 2D slippy map.
